Yahoo! purchases Tumblr - vows not to "screw it up"

Quite a weird press release - but I guess with Yahoo's record of the past it is better to be clear and honest upfront. "We wont srew it up!" - Yahoo will run Tumblr as an independent entitiy very much like Microsoft handled the Skype acquisition and very much unlike Yahoo handled their last significant acquisition - the purchase of Flickr which has been basically left unchanged for years even though it used to be the best photo sharing site on the web at the time of the purchase. It'll be interesting how this integrates with other Yahoo! services over time - if nothing else it adds 300 milion unique users.

Windows Blue coming to developers in June

Windows 8.1 (Blue) will be a free update for existing Win. 8 users, says division CFO Tami Reller. Though an incremental update, Microsoft (MSFT) is counting on 8.1's UI tweaks to appease older Windows users unhappy with Win. 8's giant changes. A developer preview will arrive on June 26; the official release is expected sometime before the holiday season.

Subscriber and Marketshare year over year of Windows Phone has been flat and it indeed seems that Microsofts (and very closely related Nokia's) turnaround in the Mobile space isn't happening. At least not yet.

100 Million Licenses of Windows 8

Microsoft sold 100 million licenses of Windows 8 in its first 6 month on the market. There will be plenty of debate if this is a good or bad number, however this is exactly the number of Windows 7 sales after 6 month.

Windows 7 was welcomed as the “hero” after Microsoft’s PR debacle Windows Vista. Windows 8 is welcomed as – let’s face it – not Microsoft’s best product ever shipped.

(I disagree stringly with the notion in both cases, Vista is solid and a good OS and so is Windows 8 – the negative perception of both of these OS' is all about PR and Marketing)

No matter what, 100 million sold of anything is a big number!

Blackberry Z 10 unboxing

I got my Blackberry Z10 today.

It is quite a nice device, I was very impressed by the size of it compared to my iPhone 5 and the weight which seems less.

If you check the actual screen size after turning the Z10 on you realize however that the viewable area is almost identical and that the bezel itself adds to the impression of a bigger screen.

The packaging is - a complete 100% identical copy of the Apple packaging.

The back provides a nice grip and the not so subtle Blackberry logo. No unneccessary writing though (this always annoyed me on my iPhone).

The screen resolution is not Retina - however, I was impressed by the responsiveness and clarity.

After the first boot 116MB of updates were waiting for me...

I will check the functionality and features over the next couple of weeks. I have never been a huge Blackberry fan and especially their hardware and email client usually turned me away. The Z 10 at least is a very nice piece of hardware, if the software is on the same level this might be the first Blackberry that I'll keep and actually going to use.

Office 2013 License re-arm

In case your Office License expires because you couldn't activate it in time (for whatever reason you missed your 30 day deadline) you can re-arm your license for another 30 days.

Here is how: (you have to be administrator on your machine or run this with an administrative account)
