With Consumerization of IT and comparing Microsoft to Apple or Google or other companies that do not really share the same market it is sometimes easy to overlook that Microsoft’s actual business is not in Gaming or Online or Search or even Mobile Devices.
It is simply in Office, Windows and Windows Server – everything else is either not making them any money (yet) or nonexistent. The amount they are loosing every quarter Online for the last 5 years shows some dedication but I’m not sure it is really changing the perception people have of Microsoft (Bing anyone?) or will be really their future – just focus and make even better OS’s, Office and other productivity tools. It is lame and not very sexy but it is what the majority of MS customers (corporations) are interested in and obviously also the area were the most money can be made.
