Apple finally released some historical sales data for the iPhone and iPad so that we can get a good comparison between Apple and Samsung – the two main players in the Smartphone and Tablet market.
These are numbers for the US market (from Business Insider)
The iPhone still clearly dominates the market – and the Android handset fragmentation is obvious (even for just one manufacturer we see more than 20 models in 2 years).
The tablet market is even more slanted towards Apple:
Basically there is no other tablet than the iPad and since the price for the iPad 2 was slashed Samsung didn’t sell anything.
I did not expect these numbers to be this extreme – a little bit more competition in the market would be welcome. The question is, if Apple introduces a cheaper 7” tablet: Will there still be a market left for anyone else at this point?
